In the current information age, the merging of entertainment formats continues to grow.  This has led to many video game movies, or the integration of movies based on video games and video games based on movies.  There are entire franchises built around games and movies about the same story, such as Resident Evil.

Given the growing, but still relatively small number of video game movies, this list includes all games and movies based on a title in the other format that has been reviewed on one of our sites.  As you try to find the best video game movies for your interests, you can read through the respective movie and games reviews to learn more about them, including synopsis, recommendation, and rating.  Only those games and movies released during the current year are included in that year’s list of video game movies.  No consideration is given to whether the video game or movie came first.
